3D AutoCAD Progress designs

Recently I completed a course learning 2D and 3D Auto CAD, It was very interesting and I learned a lot I had never heard of this program before.

These are screenshots I took show some of my process when when creating a 3D Model,

Watering can from an exercise.

referenced from real life as part of a work experience project.

Working in CAD is different to any other graphics program I've used before, I think modeling in, 3DS Max or Maya feel a bit like clay they way you push and pull on various parts and smooth them out but CAD is a bit like carving shapes into stone. I usually cut into the shape more than mold it.

2014 Show reel

Show Reel 2014 from Janette Monahan on Vimeo.

This year I got the chance to work on a documentary and sprites for a video game which I added to clips of my short films. As well as the animation I also designed everything featured. The pink characters were based on designs featured on a decorative plate from the Cake Cafe who I created the animation for.

Endure Doumentary

About a month or two ago completed work doing animated map graphics which I was approached to do for the feature length documentary: Endure. It follows a pair of cyclists who travel around the world in order to raise money for charity. The website is available here.

The map featured in the background of the website is my design.
Here is the full image it shows the routes taken by the cyclists on their journey

Below is an out-take I made that was for a test film when I was trying to decide the look of the graphics I thought about having the paths led by two different coloured cyclist symbols

in the end though it wasn't used but I quite liked working in this style.

Spring Time (2012)

My graduation film from BCFE. I created it using a mix of hand drawn 2D and 3D animation. A young girl has trouble sleeping made worse with the appearance of a loose bed spring.

Saoirse

Saoirse is a children's book I worked on in aid of the charity Aiobheann's Pink Tie. The series, of which there are currently two in an ongoing series are written by Mick Rochford tells the story of a fairy who is on the search for magical gold hearts and the adventures she finds along the way.

I created designs for the characters and Illustrated the first book with help from Dillon Maxwell, The Second book was illustrated by Lucy Toner.

Both books are available on kindle (click images for links).

These are some of my images from the first book

Below are some concept sketches for the characters.

Spring 2013 Gesture drawings 2

More drawings from Nialls' gesture life drawing classes the poses ranged between 1 and 3 minutes. I mainly used graphite and charcoal but for poses longer than that I switched to oil pastels.
